For his One Sun series, Izima Kaoru tracks the path of the sun from sunrise to sunset on a single day in locations around the world. Using a fisheye lens and a single exposure, from dawn to dusk, he captures 360-degree views of the sun's progress as it makes its way across the sky. In his Landscapes with a Corpse series, Kaoru photographs models and actors outfitted in high-fashion wardrobes, acting out fantasy death scenes to create suites of photographs that are fanciful, cinematic, and haunting.
Kaoru was born in 1954 in Kyoto, Japan. He worked as a fashion photographer until 1993 when he was inspired to create the Landscapes with a Corpse series. He has since shown his work internationally, and his photographs have been featured in numerous publications, including The New Yorker, The New York Times, Interview Magazine, Esquire, Aperture, and The Huffington Post.
Kaoru lives and works in Tokyo.
