Von Lintel Gallery will be presenting Engstrom’s photographic work for the first time at PHOTOFAIRS NY (Booth 220) on September 8-10, 2023, where we will be displaying work from her Lovers & Dreamers series, followed by a solo exhibition at Von Lintel Gallery in 2024.
As a vanguard of combining photography and embroidery, Engstrom transcends the traditional boundaries of her medium. Lovers & Dreamers is a collection of ethereal, light filled and poetic landscapes: Messy, wild and tangled florals; dramatic and bold skyscapes; hazy and dreamlike treescapes. Nature is alive, existing and thriving beyond the frame of a photographic composition.
The result is a collection of prints that are more than mere visuals—they are palpable, organic, and textured. The needlework adds layers of depth and emotion to each image, transforming them into works of art that demand to be felt as well as seen. The prints, despite the paper's toothy and textured composition, retain their fragility and reveal the immense labor of love poured into their creation. Through her lens, Engstrom’s images act as a visual diary, documenting her ongoing exploration of the world, weaving a compelling narrative through her photography, meticulously embroidering each image to break free from the confines of a two-dimensional plane.
Lucia Engstrom’ work has been exhibited consistently since 2014. The artist lives and works in New York.
